The 1993 Mumbai bombings were a series of 13 bomb explosions that took place in Mumbai (Bombay), India on March 12, 1993. The attacks were the most destructive and coordinated bomb explosions in the country’s history. The explosives went off within 75 minutes of each other across several districts of India’s financial capital. The blasts were caused at prestigious and important buildings like Mumbai Stock Exchange, Air-India Building, Hotel Sea Rock, Hotel Juhu Centaur, Hotel Airport Centaur and busy commercial areas like Zaveri Bazar, Century Bazar and Katha Bazar. Explosions were also caused near Shiv Sena Bhawan and at Plaza Theatre. Simultaneously, hand-grenades were thrown at Sahar International Airport and at Fishermen’s Colony inhabited by members of Hindu community at Mahim.

A series of 12 bomb blasts rocked Coimbatore shortly before Bharatiya Janata Party president L K Advani arrived for a campaign meeting.One blast occurred in a shop named Rajendra Textiles, a source in Coimbatore said, killing three women on the spot. Four were killed in a blast at Thiruvalluvar bus stand and other blasts occurred near where Mr,. Advani was supposed to speak.

A brief synopsis of the event
A group of terrorists in uniform came to the village of Chati Singhpora and asked the Sikh villagers to come out of their homes. When the Sikhs stepped out, the terrorists opened fire killing them mercilessly in cold blood killing 34 people on the spot. Three villagers who were seriously injured in the shooting were shifted to Srinagar, where one succumbed.
The killings occurred just hours before President Clinton returned to India from Bangladesh. A report from Barramullah said heavily armed terrorists attacked Pattan police station with hand grenades and assault rifles and injured three policemen. The police station building was partially damaged.

A brief synopsis of the event
Terrorists attacked the Indian Parliament with AK-47s and grenades killing nine policemen and a parliament staff member. All five terrorists were killed by the security after a 45 minute gun battle and were identified as Pakistanis. The car used by terrorists had Home ministry label and a red light had 30 kg of RDX and hand grenades. The terrorists’ wanted to kill important politicians and take hostages.

The siege of temple complex ended after a commando operation.
